Jakarta, Jurnaliswarga.id – President Joko Widodo has called upon the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, to swiftly prioritize the completion of the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project. President Jokowi made this statement after inaugurating Budi Arie Setiadi as the Minister of Communication and Information at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, July 17, 2023.
“We have a very limited time, less than 1.5 years, so I want the first priority for Kominfo to be the completion of the BTS. Let the legal process proceed, we respect the legal process, but the completion of the BTS must continue,” said the President.
Furthermore, the President emphasized the importance of BTS completion as it directly affects public services, especially in remote and underdeveloped areas. President Jokowi does not want the project to be left unfinished.
“We should not have a situation where we have a legal issue while the BTS project is also left unfinished. That’s something I don’t want. It’s a challenging task,” he added.
Additionally, President Jokowi highlighted that the speed of global changes is now highly determined by information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure. Therefore, the President stated that the government is strengthening the Ministry of Communication and Information with the appointment of a Deputy Minister.
“We are reinforcing the ministry with a Deputy Minister to promptly finalize matters related to data sovereignty, artificial intelligence, frequency allocation, satellites, and all related areas. We will also provide assistance through a special task force. Indeed, we have very limited time. The task force will be established later,” he explained.
To fill the position of Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, President Jokowi appointed Nezar Patria. According to the President, Nezar Patria is an experienced figure in the media industry.
“Mr. Nezar has experience in the media, having served as the editor-in-chief of Jakarta Post, a member of the Press Council, and having worked in state-owned enterprises. I believe he will greatly assist Minister Budi Arie,” he concluded.
In a separate statement, Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, expressed his commitment to follow and implement the President’s vision and mission, including the directive to expedite the completion of the BTS.
“As mentioned by President Jokowi earlier, the BTS project must continue. What does that mean? It means we must ensure sufficient bandwidth for the people,” said Budi. (Red)
